Stuart Ray is member of the advisory Board at Sonenshine Partners. Prior to joining Sonenshine Partners as a Partner, Mr. Ray was a Partner in Wolfensohn & Co. where he helped create the London based joint venture, Rothschild-Wolfensohn and the Moscow based Russian American Investment Bank, a joint venture with AIG. In addition, Mr. Ray served as a principal investor for Wolfensohn Ventures, LP, the private equity investment vehicle for Wolfensohn & Co. Mr. Ray was also a founding partner in BT Wolfensohn, the mergers and acquisitions Department of Bankers Trust where Mr. Ray headed Bankers Trust’s Global Energy Group.
Mr. Ray is a relationship banker who has advised on leading M&A transactions globally. Mr. Ray advised Daimler Benz for many years on a range of transactions including the divestiture of Daimler’s Controls Business, the restructuring and formation of Siliconix, and Daimler’s acquisition of Cap Gemini Sogeti. Mr. Ray also advised Baxter International on the sale of its Diagnostics Business to Bain Capital and the spin-off of Caremark. Mr. Ray has also advised other leading industry players such as AIG, Magnum Hunter Resources, Cisneros Group, PerkinElmer, Johnson & Johnson, and Sears.
Prior to joining Wolfensohn & Co., Mr. Ray was a Managing Director of Yom Oil Ltd, an international Exploration company and Director of the Office of Coal and Synthetic Fuels Policy in the United States Department of Energy during the Carter Administration. He began his career as a security analyst with State Street Research and Management Company, Boston, Massachusetts.
Mr. Ray holds an AB from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Mr. Ray was formerly a Director of Millicom International Cellular S.A., a Luxembourg based operator of global telephone networks. He is a founding Partner of Urban American Partners, LLC, a New Jersey based real estate group that acquires and manages portfolios of urban housing units. He is also a director of the Lyford Cay Club and the Lyford Cay Foundation. Mr. Ray is a CFA charter holder, a member of the American Institute for Research and Analysis, and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts.
